I Am So Sick of People Assuming I Don’t Know My Own History

I am a 55-year old African-American female who just so happens to post on social media – YouTube, TikTok, and BlueSky – on topics that interest me or that I just want to post my opinion on at any given moment. I welcome respectful comments. I do not and will not tolerate comments that state something like the following:

Those comments were on a shorts video where I discussed the irony of a white person accusing a black person of racism, in regards to the 47th president’s accusations to the South African president: https://youtube.com/shorts/aiCOlca_4fw?feature=share

Yes, some Africans sold other Africans into slavery. And then some of those same Africans who sold other Africans were then captured and sold into slavery BY WHITE PEOPLE. White people did indeed kidnap Africans into slavery during the Transatlantic Slave Trade. There is no way that that did not happen. But let’s say it did. The atrocities put upon slaves while in America was done primarily by white people. Rape. Maiming. Beatings. Families members sold and never seen or heard from before. Breeding plantations. Tell me none of that happened, and I will tell you that you don’t know history.

And the above referenced shorts video never mentioned reparations. But since it was mentioned, yes, African-Americans should have received reparations long ago. President Andrew Johnson put an end to General Sherman’s Field Order Number 15 - the promise of 40 acres and a mule to freed slaves.

I am so sick of some white people automatically assuming that black people are uneducated and do not know history. I know that the Southern Dixiecrats wanted to keep Jim Crow laws and even slavery. Remember that pesky little war, the Civil War? The main cause of that was the fight to keep slavery going. And now, with the current administration in place, racist white people (and no, not all white people are racist) are feeling emboldened and trying to take our country backwards to the Jim Crow era and before. Well, that is NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.
